National Recommitment Month

Adult Dance School Brussels Belgium English

Hello hello friends! Welcome back to another blog, the month of May is filled with many events and holidays and one I would like to talk about today is National Recommitment Month! Now you might be thinking what the heck is National Recommitment Month and what does it have to do with dance? As the name suggests, recommitment month encourages you to reconnect and recommit to things you may have lost touch with over time. And because 2021 has been rather interesting, you may have accidentally veered away from things you might once have committed to. This blog acts as a little motivation to get back into dance if you feel like you want to get back into it. So without further ado, here’s some motivation friends!

1. It’s not too late.

The one thing that always pops up in my mind if I feel like I have lost track with my prior commitments or goals, it’s always “well too late now, there is no point.” Don’t listen to that, there is a reason why you started your hobby, and there is no need to beat yourself up over lost time. Life happens, things change and sometimes a new path opens up. Take this opportunity and time to reflect on all the things that happened and use it to fuel you to get back into doing things that you love! It is never too late to start or restart something, no matter how many times you feel like you fell off the wagon. Once you get back into it, it will become a lot easier to keep up with it and you’ll be having way too much fun to think otherwise!

2. Why did you decide to do it in the first place?

There is a reason why you decided to do it in the first place, whether because it made you feel good, it was a nice escape from stress at work, or it kept you healthy and feeling fit; whatever it may be there was a reason why you decided to start; use that to remotivate you to start again. If you started dancing to have fun, enjoy some time to yourself and not think about other things, remember how it made you feel when you were in class and how much you enjoyed that! Having that spark of reason really does change your whole outlook on recommitment.

3. Self-reflection is key

Recommitting to something can be hard, whether that is committing to a daily routine or restarting dance classes, especially with quarantine and self distancing. However, having self-reflection is a great way to remind you and encourage you on how far you have come, and celebrate all the good that has come with recommitting. If you are feeling overwhelmed or don’t know how to get started again, keep a journal of your intentions; what goals you want to reach, how you want to reach them, and little steps to help you get there. This will help you set a goal and achieve it. Keeping a journal of self-reflection will also help you realize what you like and what fuels you as a person, remember it’s a journey ☺

4. Recommit with friends!

As mentioned above, recommitting can be overwhelming, If you feel like you need some extra motivation ask a friend to join you! Not only will you have support, but you will be doing something fun with your closest friends creating some pretty cool memories along the way. If you are nervous about going to a dance class, grab a friend and head out together. It will be a little less nerve racking and just as fun if not more!

I hope this is a friendly reminder to continue pursuing your goals, aspirations, and do things that just make you happy. While it is the end of May, recommitting doesn’t just have to conform to one month, it is a journey and 100% worth it.
