Whether you’re new to dance or are just curious about starting, I’m sure you probably have a few questions. Here are a few of the more commonly asked questions about dance - answered!

1.Am I Too Old To Start Dancing?
Absolutely not! Dance definitely does not have an age limit. Dance is for all ages and it’s a common misconception that you must have started young to be ‘good’. No matter what age you are or your level of experience there is always an opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits of dance.
2.Do I Need Experience To Start Dancing?
Not at all! Just like any other sport or hobby you definitely don’t need to be professional to take a class. No matter what skill level you have we’ll welcome you to every class and help you find your confidence on the dance floor.
3. What Should I Wear To a Dance Class?
Really, this just depends on the class. Usually ballet students will wear more tight fitting clothing like, leotard and tights or leggings and a tank top. For classes like hip hop however, typically more loose fitting, baggy clothes are worn, and this is to help you move more freely. The trick is to wear something comfortable and that makes you feel confident!
4.Do I Need Special Shoes?
Yes certain classes require specific shoes, such as ballet where ballet flats are usually worn but socks also work! Hip hop often works best with trainers or sneakers. For contemporary dance, socks are also usually worn, but in some classes dancers can also go barefoot. All depends on personal preference!
5. How long does it take to get good at dance?
This all depends on the person and experience they have. Some styles or steps take longer to get a grasp of and others may come more naturally. Just like any other sport, the more time you take to practice it the faster you’ll see an improvement.
Hopefully by answering some of these questions it can ease some uncertainty or nerves you may feel before going to a class. The best way to build confidence is just put yourself out there and focus on having fun rather than being perfect.
