Things Only Dancers Will Understand

Let’s be real, the dance community is a world of it’s own. Whether you are just beginning your dance journey and figuring these things out for the first time, or are a seasoned pro and basically live in the studio – here are some of the  very niche things that only dancers will understand. If you know you know.

1.Not being able to listen to that one song anymore…

We all have that one song, that when it plays on the radio or sneaks up when you shuffle your playlist we can’t help but remember a dance we did to it. You can never listen to it quite the same anymore, without tapping your foot or imagining the choreography in your head

2.Having those mysterious bruises.

Having an assortment of bruises is almost a right of passage for any dancer. A commonly occurring conversation between dancers would be discussing where and how they got each and every bruise.

3.There’s no such thing as “One More Time”

When we here these words coming out of the teachers mouth, we all know that it actually means, be ready to run the choreography at least 6 more times …minimum. However this does mean that there a high likelihood that you won’t be forgetting that choreography anytime soon.

4. The ever changing outfits of a dancer throughout the class.

For some reason, us dancers have created an arsenal of strange outfit habits. For instance there will always be someone with just ONE leg of their trousers rolled up or only have a soc on one foot. More recently I’ve seen a lot of dancers wearing basket ball shorts over their sweat pants…. I can’t really explain that one.

In conclusion it is pretty clear that the dance world is bordering on cult-like, but it is probably the best cult to be a member of, plus there’s no extortionate exit fee. These little habits and quirks are what makes dance, dance and I wouldn’t change any of it!
